In our desire to grow in obedience to God and to reach out in compassion with the Good News that God has come to all people in Jesus Christ we are engaged in the following local and foreign missions:
Annual Mission Trips
Annual Youth Mission Trip: Each year a group of HPC Adults work with the Youth of the Church to organize and participate in a week-long mission service. Our 2010 Youth Mission trip will be to Queens, NY, from June 27 - July 2, 2010. We at HPC are clearly blessed by the Holy Spirit as this outreach mission continues to grow. Harvesting in Spanish – the Shalom Children’s Home (Hogar Infantil Shalom): Located in the town of Santo Tomas, El Salvador, this ministry houses and cares for children from newborn to age 21. The children receive shelter, clothing, food, medical care, education, and life skills in an intentionally Christian environment. Our congregation sends an adult mission team each summer to assist in the home’s ministry. Annually our church mission program provides financial and material support. Mexico Men’s Mission – Xpujil in the Yucatan peninsula: Each year (we have made 4 trips) we go to support the ministry of Todd Luke, an Outreach Foundation missionary with the construction of water cisterns, and sharing the gospel with the Chol people. We provide financial, material and physical support.
Local Missions
OPEN M: We provide financial support to OPEN M, the Open Parish Ecumenical Neighborhood Ministry in Akron, Ohio. You can visit OPEN M’s website at OPENM.
Habitat for Humanity: Every summer HPC joins other Hudson churches to do our part in providing affordable housing to families in Akron. We provide both financial support and hands on help. Call Jon Polhamus for more information (330-650-2693).
Laurel Lake Retirement Community: our Deacons offer a worship services during the year and visitation for residents, in addition every third Wednesday of the month the Laurel Lake residents are invited to dine with our church deacons. If you are interested, contact the church office (330-650-1626).
Akron Pregnancy Services: We provide material and financial support, contact Laury Gray (330-650-2648) or the church office (330-650-1626)
Rockynol Retirement Community: we provide material support. Please contact Pat Cochran if you have an interest in helping with this important ministry (330-650-1957).
Operation Shoe Box: An annual mission that provides material support for needy children around the world, a project of Samaritan’s Purse ministry.
Giving Tree: provides Christmas gifts for area families. We place a Christmas tree in our church with tags containing requested gifts. Our members take the tags and purchase the gifts, which are then distributed to the families.
Haven of Rest Ministries: An Akron area ministry that provides food, shelter, clothing and rehabilitation programs for men, women and children. We provide financial support.
Young Life of the Western Reserve: this ministry reaches out to share Good News of Jesus Christ with area youth. We provide an annual financial assistance and have youth who participate in Young Life’s programs.
Good Neighbors: An Akron area organization that provides food and clothing for those in need. We provide material support.
Hudson Job Search: Helps unemployed area residents find support and resources as they seek new employment. We provide financial support.
National and International Missions
Buckhorn Children and Family Services: We provide annual financial assistance. With locations in Ohio and Kentucky, this ministry alleviates the suffering of children and their families.
The Outreach Foundation: Through this mission organization our congregation helps to sponsor the following mission work. Missionaries George and Gail McBane, who are ministering in the nation of Pakistan, reaching the Meghwal people with the Good News of Jesus Christ. Missionaries George and Jeanne Haugen, who are ministering in the nation of Bolivia, their ministry includes groups of formerly unreached mountain people in the Ayopayo region.
Presbyterian Border Ministry: a ministry on the Mexican side of the border to provide for the spiritual, pastoral and physical needs of the Mexican people. We provide financial assistance.
Frances Newton Hospital in India: a nurse-training hospital near the India-Pakistan border that provides medical care to local families and individuals. We provide an annual financial donation.
